Scholarship Committee Procedures Document

Effective 2011/11/29

Summary of the program
The Scholarship Committee is tasked with the fair distribution of available scholarship funds based on merit and need to UND Aviation undergraduate and graduate students.

Eligibility of recipients
Enrolled students at the University of North Dakota in the Department of Aviation are eligible to apply for a scholarship.

Selection process and criteria
All students must apply using the on-line scholarship application process. The applicants are ranked according to a scoring algorithm reviewed periodically by the scholarship committee. An applicant's numerical score and personal statement determine for which (if any) scholarship the student is eligible. The applicant's name is not released to the committee until the numerical scoring and personal statement scoring are complete.

The committee shall award scholarships to applicants based on ranking from the numerical ranking system, the personal statement score, and any scholarship-specific criteria. The committee may also take into account preferences indicated by the applicant in the personal statement and other relevant information known to the committee.

Applicants shall be informed of the minimum scholarship award amount, and may be required to be present at the scholarship banquet to be eligible for the award, as determined by the committee.

Information release and contact
This Procedures Document shall be released to an applicant or other interested party upon request. Questions regarding the algorithm and scholarship committee actions related to an applicant are subject to FERPA. Any scholarship committee member may answer questions if contacted by an applicant or other interested party, or may refer the question to the scholarship committee chair. The chair may answer the question or refer the question to the Dean.
